Travel tips

Plan your route

First, let's pull out a map and prepare for the trip: start by finding the main destinations you'd like to visit, then connect them together to find the best route. Help yourself with one of the many apps that calculate travel times and pick out places that are worth a stop or an overnight stay (especially to break up long car trips).

Book in advance

While part of the beauty of an on-the-road trip is the freedom to stop wherever and whenever you want, there are still some advantages to booking accommodations in advance. Many of the best campgrounds sell out quickly in the warmer months, and the same goes for busy cities or tourist attractions. You'll probably still be able to find a free hotel spot somewhere, but if you care about staying in a specific place then it's best to book in advance (even a few days in advance).

Prepare your vehicle

Before you leave, it's important to know that your vehicle won't mess with you. Give it a good, thorough check of oil, fluids, tires, air filters, lights and blinkers. Make sure you have a spare tire in good condition and all the necessary paperwork to get on the road.

A great option for any on-the-road trip is to rent a car, especially if you have to take a flight to get to the beginning of your route. If you want to have a look at the prices, above you will find the link to our car section where you can compare all the offers available at the moment, simply by entering the airport where you will pick up the car.

Prepare remedies to boredom

Travel on the road makes you immerse yourself in the landscape, in the discovery, it's a real adventure. But even adventures can have downtime or boredom! After hours of driving you may want or need to take your mind off things, so choosing a good selection of music, an audiobook or a podcast can be a great remedy for boredom or embellish your trip even more.

Bring snacks

Never go on a long trip without some snacks on hand! Nothing too heavy of course (you'll still be driving, better to avoid falling asleep): some fruit, cereal bar or similar. You can't miss water either (better in a water bottle, you'll avoid buying and throwing away plastic bottles at every stop). Also bring a nice thermos of coffee or tea, if you like.
