Events Canceled Because of the Coronavirus
The coronavirus outbreak has impacted nearly every industry globally in recent weeks. With the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, there’s an increased effort to prevent the spread of the virus, which has meant the cancellation of many events, like sports championships, concerts and festivals.
Here are some major events canceled or postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic:
2020 Olympics
After the President of the International Olympic Committee accepted Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's proposal for a one-year postponement, the IOC announced on March 30 that the games will be held
between July and August 2021.
NBA
The NBA became
the first major U.S. sports league to suspend the season after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive at the COVID-19.
NHL
Like the NBA, the
NHL suspended the championship. The decision came after the NBA was suspended for Gobert's positivity to the Coronavirus.
UEFA Champions League and Europa League
UEFA has also stopped. The most prestigious competitions for European clubs have in fact
suspended their activities. All UEFA club competitions matches scheduled are postponed to a date to be defined.
Broadway Productions
All Broadway productions have been canceled since March 12 as part of an effort to restrict all gatherings of more than 500 people and to limit the coronavirus epidemic.
Cannes Film Festival 2020
The Cannes Film Festival, which was originally set to take place in the middle of May,
has been canceled due to the health crisis and the development of the French and international situation.
Concerts
A lot of artists had to cancel their tours in the world, like Green Day, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Madonna and more.
Festivals
Obviously also a lot of festivals have been canceled, postponed or moved online. Here are some of the most famous in thw world:
