Venice entrance ticket: how does it work?
From January 2023, the measure to counter mass tourism will come into effect in Venice: the entrance ticket. The new measure aims to decrease and regulate the influx of tourists into the city, a problem that has plagued residents for many years now. But how does the new entrance ticket work?
Variable prices and reservation
The entrance ticket will not have a fixed price but may vary depending on the days chosen for the visit: it ranges from a minimum of 3 euros to a maximum of 10 euros depending on the day. The start date has been set by the City Council to January 16, 2023, while until then, even for a single day, there will be no obligation to pay any ticket. There are also discounts for those who stay several days in the lagoon and for those who book their tickets in advance.Booking and payment arrangements
The new regulations provide for the creation of a website (which will be online by the end of the year) through which people can book and pay their entrance ticket to Venice. The platform will issue a Qr-Code to be shown later in case of controls: by the way, there are fines from 50 to 300 euros for violators!
Categories exempt from payment
In addition to city residents, those who have a second home in Venice, those who work in the ancient city and the smaller islands, students, those born in the City of Venice, those who need access for health services or sports competitions, and those visiting relatives up to the third degree will be exempt from payment. Residents of the Veneto region will also be exempt from payment (but with maximum entry thresholds). So if you are planning to visit Venice, whether it is this year or next year with the new regulations, we recommend that you book your trip well in advance!
